Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Planning well structures Physical Education lessons both practically and theoretically to KS3, KS4 and potential opportunities for KS5.
  • Supervising practical PE lessons both indoor and outdoor classes.
  • Ensuring that children compete to their ability level and aren’t exposed to unnecessary injury or illness through school sports.
  • Motivating school children to take up new sports or athletic pursuits.
  • Evaluating the performance of students throughout the school year.
  • Training and coaching school sports teams to compete and succeed in nation-wide events.

The successful PE Teacher:

  • A bachelor's degree in physical education or a related field such as exercise science, kinesiology, or sports science.
  • A strong background in physical education, sports, fitness, and health is essential.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in educational or coaching settings can be beneficial. This could include coaching sports teams, leading recreational activities, or working as a camp counsellor.
  • Effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and parents. They should be able to motivate and inspire students to participate in physical activities and promote a positive attitude toward fitness and health.
  • work with students of varying abilities and backgrounds. Being adaptable and patient is crucial in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments.
  • Continuing professional development are important for staying current with teaching methods, trends in physical education, and advancements in sports science.
