Are you a History teacher seeking a role within South Gloucestershire?

Teaching Personnel Bristol are currently recruiting for a History teacher to join a successful Humanities department in a Secondary school in South Gloucestershire.

The Role:

This is a part time position.

The successful candidate will be able to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently. The ability to teach A Level is desirable but not a requirement.

This role is initially on a supply basis but there may be an opportunity to progress on to a school contract if the successful candidate is a particularly good fit within the department.

The school has high standards of behaviour so good behaviour management is not necessarily required but as with most schools there may be pockets of low level disruption.

The pay for this role is between £100-150 a day depending on your experience.

The School:

"Standards of behaviour are very high and our excellent student support structure enables us to get to know each individual. We enjoy strong partnerships with our parents/carers and our local primary schools. By working together, we can support each individual student and enable them to thrive." - Headteacher

This is a mixed 11-18 comprehensive school, which admits up to 150 students a year from the full ability range. The school can be said to be genuinely comprehensive, it has a successful and vibrant sixth form.

The school is situated on the southern outskirts of a medieval market town on the southern edge of the Cotswolds. It is a short drive from the cities of Bath and Bristol and is easily accessible from the M4/M5 motorway network. Exmoor, Dartmoor, South Wales and the Forest of Dean are all within easy reach.

The most recent inspection by Ofsted took place in December 2015. Behaviour, Personal Development and Welfare was noted as being 'GOOD'.

  • "Pupils' behaviour and conduct around the school is good."
  • "Pupils are safe and well cared for; they enjoy positive relationships with staff."
  • "The school has a welcoming, inclusive feel and pupils report they are happy in coming to school.

However, the rest of the school does Require Improvement in all other areas.

The report highlights the teaching abilities:

  • Teaching does not provide sufficiently high levels of challenge for all pupils which limits the progress they are able to make.
  • Teaching does not provide the deeper thinking skills necessary to prepare pupils for study in the sixth form.

The successful candidate for this role should be aware of this and possess the necessary skills to work on these issues.
