Position: 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Location: Lancaster
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
Salary: £168.80 - £261.78
Start Date: 5th January

About the Role
Our client, a specialist SEN school in the Lancaster, is looking for a compassionate and reliable 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a pupil with additional needs. The school provides a nurturing, structured environment for children and young people with a range of diagnoses, including autism, SEMH, and learning difficulties. This is a highly rewarding role where you will make a genuine difference to one learner’s progress, confidence, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a designated pupil, helping them engage with learning and daily routines.

  • Adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning, sensory, and communication needs.

  • Implement strategies recommended by teachers and external specialists.

  • Support the pupil with regulating emotions, managing behaviour, and developing independence skills.

  • Create a safe, supportive, and trusting relationship with the learner.

  • Assist with record-keeping, progress notes, and contributions to EHCP targets.

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider team to ensure coordinated support.

About You

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable.

  • A patient, empathetic, and calm approach.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.

  • Confidence supporting behaviour using positive, trauma-informed techniques.

  • Flexibility, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping children thrive.

  • Relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, PECS, Makaton) is beneficial but not essential.
