Nursery Teaching Assistant

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)

Location: Newton Aycliffe, County Durham

Job Role

To support the class teacher in delivering high-quality early years education in line with the EYFS framework. The role involves helping to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that supports the development of children aged 3–5 years.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the planning and delivery of creative, play-based learning activities in line with the EYFS curriculum
• Assist in observing, assessing, and recording children’s progress
• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils, including those with additional needs
• Help maintain a safe, stimulating, and well-organised classroom environment
• Promote positive behaviour and support children’s social and emotional development
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher and other staff members
• Assist with personal care needs where required
• Support children during transitions, break times, and outdoor learning
• Contribute to maintaining learning journals and records
• Build positive relationships with parents and carers

Essential:

• Experience working with children in an EYFS or similar setting
• Good understanding of the EYFS framework
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• A patient, caring, and enthusiastic approach
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths

Desirable:

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant or Early Years qualification
• Experience supporting children with SEND
• Paediatric First Aid qualification

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
