SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant (SEMH – KS2)
Location: Darlington
Contract: Full time
We are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and highly motivated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 2 pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a rewarding but challenging role, requiring patience, consistency, and a strong commitment to making a difference in a child’s life.
About the Role
You will work on a 1:1 basis with a pupil who requires additional support to access learning and regulate their emotions.
- Supporting the pupil’s emotional regulation and behaviour
- Building a trusting, positive relationship
- Implementing individual behaviour and support plans
- Assisting with academic engagement across the KS2 curriculum
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals
- Promoting inclusion, independence, and resilience
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working with children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
- Be calm, patient, and consistent under pressure
- Demonstrate strong behaviour management strategies
- Be emotionally intelligent and able to de-escalate situations effectively
- Show a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
- Be a team player with good communication skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- Team Teach / de-escalation training
- Experience in a PRU, alternative provision, or similar setting
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
