Are you a passionate and experienced Teaching Assistant with expertise in managing challenging behavior and supporting students with SEMH needs? We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Challenging Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant for one of our provisionals in Hayle, West Cornwall. In this role, you will work closely with students who require additional support due to their SEMH needs, providing tailored assistance within our inclusive and nurturing group setting to help them overcome barriers to learning and thrive in their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalised support and intervention to students with SEMH needs within the provision, focusing on managing challenging behavior and promoting positive social-emotional development.
- Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to develop and implement behavior support plans and strategies that address the unique needs of each student within the inclusive group setting.
- Foster positive relationships with students, building trust and rapport to facilitate effective communication and support within the nurturing environment of the group.
- Implement de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment within the Inclusion/Nurture Group, while also addressing underlying emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Support students in developing coping mechanisms, resilience, and self-regulation skills to manage their emotions and behaviors effectively, with a focus on promoting inclusion and belonging within the group.
- Lead 1:1 and small group interventions under guidance of the classroom teacher.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, preferably with a focus on supporting students with SEMH needs.
- Understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies, with the ability to implement de-escalation techniques and support students in managing challenging behavior within an inclusive group setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students within the nurturing environment of the group.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with students who may have experienced trauma or adversity.
Subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
