Mental Health Support Assistant (Teaching Assistant) – Huddersfield

Location: Huddersfield
Pay: £90 – £105 per day
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term | Temp-to-Perm

Are you passionate about supporting young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing?
We’re looking for a compassionate, proactive Mental Health Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Huddersfield, supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional learning challenges.

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference — whether you come from a school, care, youth work, psychology, or mental health background.

The Role:

  • Support students aged 11–18 with SEMH needs, trauma, or anxiety.

  • Work closely with teaching staff, counsellors, and therapists to promote emotional regulation.

  • Help implement strategies for behaviour management and wellbeing.

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support in both academic and therapeutic activities.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe and understood.

Requirements:

  • Experience in mental health support, youth work, SEN, or similar setting.

  • DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

  • Calm, patient, and empathetic nature.

  • Full-time availability (Monday–Friday, term time).

  • Team Teach, Safeguarding, or Mental Health First Aid training desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
