Job description

Learning Support Assistant – Special Educational Needs

Location: Eastleigh.  Hourly Rate: £13.75.  Working Hours: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only.  Employer: Teaching Personnel.

The school provides tailored education to pupils aged 4–19 with a wide range of special educational needs, including autism, communication and interaction challenges, and complex learning difficulties.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children and young people thrive, both academically and personally. Experience in SEN is valued but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.

  • Assisting with the delivery of individualised learning plans and supporting the implementation of EHCPs.

  • Promoting a positive, inclusive learning environment that fosters independence and self-confidence.

  • Working collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals, including therapists and support staff.

  • Providing personal care or physical support when required, in line with school policies and training.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people (in schools, care, youth work, or SEN settings) is desirable.

  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, flexible approach to supporting children with additional needs.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.

  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.

  • Willingness to complete relevant training (e.g. Autism Awareness, Safeguarding, Team Teach).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
