Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
Teaching Personnel are currently working with a school in Portsmouth who are seeking to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is able to support students in class and/or on a 1:1 basis to develop emotional literacy skills such as resilience and self-esteem. The school is a special school for children with medical needs with some of the students being taught at home on Individual tuition. Pupils cover KS3 and KS4, though pupils do not always function at their age-related ability level.
Various learning needs are present within pupils including:
- Autism
- Aspergers
- Speech and language
- Anxiety and school anxiety
The successful candidate will be kind and supportive and preferably have previous experience in supporting students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
The appointment will be on a casual basis giving you flexibility around the number of hours you work each week and when you work so you are able to fit your working time around other commitments. There is also the opportunity to expand or reduce hours according to your home circumstances.
There will be further opportunities for outstanding practitioners to step up to some Band 6 teaching, but this uplift is not necessary for applying for the band 4 position. Band 6 teaching will require you to plan personalised social and emotional learning for students on a 1:1 or small group basis and/or help the students complete a qualification that fits in with your interests/specialisms and theirs.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
