Position: Learning Support Assistant
Location: Caerphilly
Pay: GBP10 per hour (12.07% holiday pay inclusive, Pension and NI contributions)
Start date: 2nd September
Contract type: 1 academic year (wit the possibility to continue)
Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit a Learning Support Assistant with previous experience supporting a child/adult with speech and languageand mobility difficulties. Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit someone who can work with a Year 1 pupil in September on a 1:1 basis, providing the basic care and assistance needed to ensure inclusive education.
Althoughhaving previous experience working in the education or care sector is preferred, it is not essential. The ability to speak Welsh, however, is essential for this post.
The role
- Assist with the child’s speech and language difficulties . (Guidance will be given by the school prior to starting the role – The school will Incorporate advice from the occupational therapist in the child’s programme);
- Ensure that the child can move freely around the classroom and that there are no obstacles in the way of the walker;
- Assist if the child needs any assistive devices for writing and speaking and encouragee the use of technology;
Strategies for learning and teaching
- Encourage independence.
- Encourage support for the student from classmates.
- Consider physical access issues such as ramps, toilets, lifts and classroom layout.
- If writing is difficult consider using a tape recorder.
- Encourage communication to prevent isolation.
- Allow students extra time to complete tasks.
- It is important to ensure that the student feels included and is encouraged and praised.
