Job description

Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEN Support (Autism)

Are you a passionate and experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong background in SEN? Teaching Personnel are working closely with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Shirley, Southampton, who are looking to appoint a dedicated 1:1 TA to support a pupil with autism starting in September. This is a full time position.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an educator who thrives on building trust, encouraging independence, and providing consistent, tailored support.

About the Role:

You’ll be working on a 1:1 basis with a KS1 pupil who requires support with emotional regulation, routine, and communication. The school is inclusive and nurturing, with a strong SEN support team and a collaborative staff culture. This is a full-time position during term time, with the potential to extend beyond the initial placement for the right person.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have previous experience supporting pupils with autism or other additional needs

  • Be confident using clear structure, visual aids, and communication strategies

  • Be calm, resilient, and consistent in approach

  • Understand the importance of building routine, trust, and positive reinforcement

  • Be ready to work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents to ensure progress

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
