Teaching Assistant (Year 1) - Full Time 1:1 Support

A caring and supportive mainstream primary school in Skelmersdale is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to provide full-time 1:1 support within a Year 1 classroom from 2nd November.

This vacancy has arisen due to the retirement of a valued member of staff and offers a genuine temporary to permanent opportunity for the successful candidate.

The Role

The successful applicant will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child who is new to the school and requires additional assistance to access learning. Working closely with the class teacher and wider support team, you will adapt learning activities, provide appropriate scaffolding, and help bridge gaps in learning for a pupil currently working below age-related expectations.

The child responds particularly well to positive reinforcement, including praise and reward systems such as smiley faces, alongside carefully scaffolded tasks that build confidence and encourage success.

This is a highly rewarding role for a patient, nurturing and adaptable Teaching Assistant who can build strong relationships while maintaining high expectations and promoting independence.

The Ideal Candidate

Applicants must:

• Have previous classroom experience within a primary school setting (essential)
• Hold a Teaching Assistant Level 2, Childcare Level 2, or equivalent qualification (essential)
• Have experience supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis
• Be confident adapting learning activities to meet the needs of children working below age-related expectations
• Have strong Literacy and Numeracy skills
• Be skilled at identifying and addressing gaps in learning
• Be patient, nurturing and able to build positive relationships quickly
• Be firm but fair and confident in upholding high expectations
• Have a positive attitude and good sense of humour
• Work effectively as part of an experienced and supportive team
• Be committed to supporting both academic progress and pupil wellbeing
