Learning Support Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Burnley
Hours: Full-time  Monday to Friday  8:30am – 3:00pm
Contract: Long-term / Temp to Perm
Pay: £13.75 - £14.50

Are you passionate about supporting young people who need extra guidance to succeed in their education? We are seeking a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming Alternative Provision (AP) setting in Burnley.

About the Role:

Alternative Provisions provide tailored education for pupils who may not be thriving in mainstream schools. This can include students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural difficulties, or those at risk of exclusion. These settings focus on rebuilding confidence, developing positive relationships, and helping learners re-engage with education in a supportive environment.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering individualised support, encouraging emotional resilience, and helping pupils achieve both academically and personally.

Who is this role suited to?

This role is ideal for individuals who are:

  • Patient, empathetic and resilient

  • Confident in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner

  • Passionate about supporting young people from diverse and often complex backgrounds

  • Experienced in working with children or young people in any setting (school, youth work, care, etc.)

Whether you’re an experienced educator, a recent graduate, or someone with a background in youth services, this is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people (formal or informal)

  • A proactive and flexible approach

  • Willingness to support pupils with additional needs, including SEMH and behavioural challenges

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
