Learning Mentor - Bradford

Date posted : 25/07/18
£55 - £75 per day + negotiable

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Teaching Personnel are working with a specialist provision in Bradford who are seeking a Learning Mentor on a full time basis from September 2018.

The provision provides an alternative curriculum to secondary age pupils (11-16) who have been excluded from mainstream education. Situated just an 8 minute drive from Bradford city centre, the school is also easily accessible by public transport. There are currently 110 pupils on roll who attend from Key Stages 3 and 4.

As a Learning Mentor, you will provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff, addressing the needs of learners who require help in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential.

You will work with a range of learners, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages.

You will cover a variety of issues, ranging from punctuality, absence, challenging behaviour and abuse. Due to the complex nature of pupil needs, you will also be experienced in de-escalation strategies to prevent pupils reaching crisis.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with staff to identify learners who would benefit from mentoring
  • Supporting students across the curriculum, either on a one-to-one basis outside the classroom or during lessons
  • Implementing strategies and supporting learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities;
  • Monitoring attendance and punctuality of learners;
  • Liaising with relevant professionals and individuals, e.g. educational psychologists, social services and parents/carers
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing written reports and evaluations

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in an alternative provision or Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) setting, and will have a sound working knowledge of supporting learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH). Additional training in Team Teach (or equivalent) would also be an advantage, although not necessary as Teaching Personnel are able to provide this training.
