KS2 Intervention Teaching Assistant (Reading & Maths)

Job Title: KS2 Intervention Teaching Assistant – Reading & Maths
Location: Blackburn & Darwen
Contract: Full-time, long‑term
Pay: £85–£105 per day (dependent on experience)
About the Role
Teaching Personnel are looking for an experienced KS2 Intervention Teaching Assistant to deliver targeted Reading, Writing and Maths support across Years 4, 5 and 6 in primary schools in Blackburn and Darwen.
This role involves running small‑group and 1:1 intervention sessions aimed at boosting pupil confidence, accelerating progress and supporting SATs preparation.
Schools are looking for candidates who can take initiative and deliver high‑impact support with minimal supervision.
Requirements (Experienced Applicants Only)
To ensure high-quality support, applicants must have:
✔ Strong recent experience working in KS2
✔ Confidence delivering Reading, Writing or Maths interventions
✔ Good understanding of the KS2 curriculum and SATs expectations
✔ Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or HLTA / tutoring experience)
✔ Ability to assess pupil gaps and adapt learning accordingly
✔ A valid enhanced DBS (or willing to obtain)
❌ This role is not suitable for applicants without primary school experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted interventions in Reading, Writing and/or Maths
- Support lower‑ability and higher‑ability groups
- Assist with SATs preparation in Year 6
- Track progress and report back to the class teacher
- Adapt materials to suit individual pupil needs
- Provide consistent behaviour and learning support
- Promote independence, confidence and resilience in pupils
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience running small‑group KS2 interventions
- Excellent subject knowledge in English and Maths
- Strong behaviour management and rapport‑building skills
- Confidence teaching independently within agreed plans
- A proactive, organised and enthusiastic approach
