Interventions Teaching Assistant – Secondary School
Location: Newport & surrounding areas
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Pay: From £14.30 per hour
Start Date: March 2026
Are you looking for a rewarding role supporting pupils who need that extra bit of guidance? We are currently recruiting an Interventions Teaching Assistant to join one of our partnership secondary schools across Newport and the surrounding areas.
This role involves working 1:1 or with small groups, helping pupils with ALN (Additional Learning Needs) or behavioural needs to develop essential literacy, numeracy and emotional regulation skills. You will work closely with the class teacher and a supportive team to ensure each pupil receives the tailored help they need.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small‑group basis within the mainstream classroom.
- Helping pupils develop literacy and numeracy techniques.
- Creating a positive, encouraging and safe environment for learners.
- Building strong relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
- Providing social and emotional support when needed.
- Following all school safeguarding and behaviour policies.
- Working collaboratively with teachers and other TAs.
- Adapting to pupils’ needs with flexibility, patience and resilience.
What we’re looking for
- Registration with the EWC (Education Workforce Council)
- A Child‑only DBS (we can assist with this if needed)
- Two professional references covering the last 24 months
- Someone confident, patient and resilient when supporting challenging behaviour
- A genuine passion for helping young people thrive

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
