Job description

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Location: Runcorn
Contract Type: Full Time, Temporary (Temp to Perm Opportunity)
Start Date: As soon as possible

A thriving secondary school in Runcorn is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team on a full-time, temporary basis, with the potential for the role to become permanent. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled HLTA to make a meaningful impact by supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored support to SEND students, both in class and through small group or 1:1 interventions.

  • Assist in the planning, delivery, and assessment of lessons under the guidance of teaching staff.

  • Take responsibility for delivering learning activities to small groups or the whole class when required.

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that enables all learners to thrive.

  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to teachers and SENCO.

  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to meet individual learning needs.

Essential Skills & Qualities:

  • Hold HLTA status or equivalent Level 4 qualification.

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally within a school setting.

  • Strong understanding of SEND and strategies to support diverse learning needs.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage behaviour positively and effectively.

  • Adaptability, patience, and a proactive approach to learning support.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with specific SEND needs such as ASD, ADHD, or SEMH.

  • Experience supporting GCSE preparation and curriculum delivery.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
