Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Contract: Full-Time | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
Start Date: ASAP
A welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in Runcorn is looking to appoint a committed and proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team. This is a full-time position with the potential to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate.
As an HLTA, you will play a key part in supporting students with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You’ll work closely with teaching staff to provide high-quality classroom support, deliver targeted interventions, and help students develop both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students with SEND across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Plan and deliver tailored small group and 1:1 intervention sessions.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to prepare and deliver engaging activities and lessons.
- Provide encouragement, emotional support, and pastoral care to help students engage in their learning.
- Adjust support strategies to meet individual student needs.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and safe school environment.
What We’re Looking For
- HLTA status or significant experience in a similar role.
- Proven experience supporting students with SEND in a school environment.
- Ability to build strong, supportive, and trusting relationships with young people.
- Confidence leading small groups and delivering planned interventions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, students, and parents/carers.
- Calm, patient, and supportive approach when managing challenges.
- Motivational and encouraging attitude, with the ability to help students achieve their potential.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work using your own initiative.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
