Salaried Teacher Training Programme (Secondary)
Location: Coventry
Start Date: April or September 2026
Salary: £22,000–£25,000 per annum
Duration: 2 years
About the Programme
This salaried teacher training route provides a structured and supported pathway into secondary teaching. You will be employed in a school from the outset, gaining paid classroom experience before progressing to a fully funded PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
The programme is ideal for graduates or career changers who want to earn while training and develop confidence in a real school environment.
Your Training Journey
Year 1 – School-Based Experience (Cover Supervisor)
You will work full-time in a Coventry secondary school as a Cover Supervisor, where you will:
- Supervise classes and deliver pre-planned lessons
- Develop strong behaviour management and communication skills
- Gain first-hand experience of day-to-day school life
- Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams
- Take part in training and professional development sessions
This year is designed to prepare you fully for formal teacher training.
Year 2 – Teacher Training (PGCE with QTS)
In your second year, you will move into a teacher training role, during which you will:
- Complete a PGCE through a partner university
- Work towards achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Teach your own classes with increasing responsibility
- Receive structured mentoring, feedback and academic support
- Continue working in your placement school
