Graduate Cover Supervisor
Job description
Graduate Cover Supervisor
Fareham
Full Time
September 2025
Are you a recent graduate with a passion for education and a desire to make a real impact in young people’s lives?
Secondary schools across Fareham are currently seeking Graduate Cover Supervisors to join their teams and provide essential classroom support during teacher absences. This is an exciting opportunity to step into the world of education, develop vital professional skills, and gain hands-on experience that can open doors to a future teaching career or broader work in the education sector.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining continuity of learning when regular teachers are unavailable. Rather than delivering new content, your primary responsibility will be to supervise classes across a range of subjects and year groups using pre-prepared lesson materials. You’ll ensure students stay on task, provide assistance where needed, manage behaviour in line with school policies, and report back to teaching staff on the progress made during lessons. While you won’t be expected to teach in the traditional sense, your presence will be key in creating a positive, productive classroom atmosphere where learning can continue uninterrupted.
This role is ideal for graduates who are considering a career in teaching or education more broadly, as it offers valuable exposure to the secondary school environment and the day-to-day workings of a classroom. You will develop strong communication, classroom management, and organisational skills—core strengths for anyone planning to pursue Initial Teacher Training or other educational pathways in the future. Working as a Cover Supervisor also allows you to explore different subject areas and observe a range of teaching styles, helping you gain clarity on your own career goals.
You may be suitable for this role if you are confident, adaptable, and enjoy working with young people. While a background in education is not essential, a genuine interest in supporting students and a positive, professional approach are crucial. The role suits graduates from a variety of academic disciplines—whether you studied English, Science, History, Sports Science, Psychology or beyond—what matters most is your enthusiasm and your ability to lead a classroom effectively.
For many graduates, this role serves as a stepping stone into a full-time teaching career. Others find that it enhances their CV for roles in youth work, mentoring, coaching, social care, and a wide range of professions that involve leadership and communication. It's also a fantastic opportunity to broaden your knowledge of the curriculum and gain first-hand insight into how schools operate.
If you are a graduate looking to gain meaningful experience, work within a supportive school setting, and make a positive difference to the educational journeys of young people in Fareham, we would love to hear from you. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available, with support and guidance provided to help you succeed and thrive in the role. Apply now and submit your CV!
