Job Description
The role of the GCSE Tutor is to provide high-quality, focused academic support to students preparing for their General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations. The tutor works closely with learners to identify their strengths and areas for improvement, delivering tailored tuition that enhances understanding, confidence, and examination performance. The position is temporary and part-time, requiring flexibility to meet students’ needs in a professional and supportive manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons aligned with the GCSE curriculum across relevant subjects.
- Assess students’ current knowledge and skills to identify learning gaps and tailor tuition accordingly.
- Develop personalised learning plans aimed at improving examination outcomes and overall academic progress.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to encourage development and promote self-confidence.
- Utilise a range of teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning styles.
- Monitor and record students’ progress regularly, adjusting lesson plans as necessary.
- Maintain a professional and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and motivation.
- Communicate effectively with parents or guardians when appropriate, providing updates on student progress.
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and ensure the welfare of all students at all times.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Education, Teaching, or a related subject.
- Demonstrable expertise in at least one GCSE subject area relevant to the tuition provided.
Education and Experience
- Previous experience delivering tuition or teaching GCSE students is essential.
- Experience in adapting teaching styles to suit individual student needs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with current GCSE examination specifications and assessment criteria.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong subject knowledge related to the GCSE curriculum.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to motivate and encourage students to achieve their academic potential.
- Organised and able to manage time effectively within a part-time, temporary role.
- Proficient in using educational resources and technology to enhance learning.
- Understanding of safeguarding requirements and commitment to student welfare.
Preferred Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent is advantageous but not essential.
- Experience with exam preparation strategies and revision techniques.
- Additional qualifications in child development or educational psychology.
Working Conditions
- The role is part-time, with flexible hours to accommodate students’ availability, typically outside school hours.
- Work may be conducted in person at various locations within Oxfordshire or online using digital platforms.
- Temporary contract with potential for extension based on student demand and performance.
- Responsibility for maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment at all times.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
