GCSE Tutor
Job Purpose
To provide high-quality tuition and support to students preparing for their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations, enhancing their understanding of subject material and improving academic performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored lessons to students in one or more GCSE subjects, ensuring clarity and engagement.
- Assess students’ current knowledge and skills to identify learning needs and gaps.
- Prepare and plan individualised learning programmes that align with the GCSE curriculum and examination requirements.
- Utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning styles.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to support academic development.
- Encourage and motivate students to achieve their full potential in their GCSE examinations.
- Maintain professional and effective communication with students and, where appropriate, with parents or guardians.
- Stay informed of changes to GCSE specifications and examination formats to ensure up-to-date teaching content.
- Support the development of students’ study skills, exam techniques, and time management.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant GCSE qualifications in the subject(s) taught, typically at grade 7 or above (or equivalent).
- Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent practical experience in education or tutoring.
Education
- Minimum of Level 3 qualification in education or relevant subject area preferred.
- Further education or professional development related to teaching or tutoring is advantageous.
Experience
- Proven experience delivering tuition or teaching GCSE-level students.
- Experience in adapting teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
- Familiarity with GCSE examination structure and content is essential.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of the GCSE curriculum and assessment criteria for relevant subjects.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage and inspire students.
- Ability to plan and deliver lessons that are clear, structured, and motivating.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Patience and empathy in supporting students’ learning journeys.
- Competence in using digital tools and resources for teaching purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher education qualification in education or the subject area taught.
- Qualification in teaching, such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or equivalent.
- Experience with remote or online tutoring platforms.
- Additional training in special educational needs or learning support.
Working Conditions
- Work primarily takes place in students’ homes, tutoring centres, or online via digital platforms.
- Flexible working hours to accommodate students’ schedules, including evenings and weekends.
- Temporary contract with the possibility of extension based on demand and performance.
- Part-time hours, typically ranging between 5 to 20 hours per week.
- Occasional travel within Greater London may be required.
- Work involves close interaction with children and young people; adherence to safeguarding policies is mandatory.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
