Working within a secondary school in the Weymouth area, you'll gain valuable classroom experience, receive ongoing support and training, and work towards achieving your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
If you've always thought about teaching but wanted practical experience before committing to a training course, this programme is designed for you.
Year 1: Cover Supervisor
During your first year, you'll become part of the school community and develop a strong understanding of classroom practice and student learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising lessons during teacher absences
- Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials
- Supporting students with their learning and engagement
- Developing behaviour management and classroom leadership skills
- Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Gaining first-hand experience of life in a secondary school
This year provides an excellent foundation before progressing into teacher training.
Year 2: Teacher Training
In your second year, you'll move onto a fully funded teacher training programme, working towards your PGCE and QTS while continuing to gain invaluable classroom experience.
You will develop skills in:
- Lesson planning and delivery
- Assessment and tracking pupil progress
- Classroom and behaviour management
- Adapting teaching to meet a range of learning needs
- Professional practice and development
