Functional Skills Tutor – NE65, Northumberland

Help Learners Build Essential Skills and Confidence

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Functional Skills Tutor to provide high-quality one-to-one tuition to learners in the NE65 area of Northumberland.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a tutor who is passionate about supporting learners to develop their English and Maths skills, achieve qualifications, and progress towards their educational and employment goals.

The Role

As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will deliver tailored tuition sessions designed to meet the individual needs of learners. You will help students develop practical literacy and numeracy skills while building confidence and engagement with learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging one-to-one Functional Skills tuition in English and/or Maths.
  • Assess learners' current abilities and identify areas for development.
  • Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes.
  • Prepare learners for Functional Skills assessments and examinations.
  • Monitor, record, and report on learner progress.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning styles and needs.
  • Promote learner confidence, independence, and achievement.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience teaching or tutoring Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
  • Strong knowledge of the Functional Skills curriculum and assessment requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage learners with varying abilities.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with learners who have SEN, SEMH, or additional learning needs.
  • Experience supporting learners who are disengaged from education.
  • Experience delivering GCSE English and Maths support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
