Join the fantastic team at Teaching Personnel and become a Tutor with us! In addition to supporting a variety of SEN schools across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, the East Midlands SEN team also specialise in supporting Local Authority teams with various tuition requests for Looked After, SEN children, children without a school place and those who require academic intervention in school.

We are looking for Functional Skills tutors to support Year 10 and 11 students who may be too far behind to obtain their GCSE's, so will instead be put through Functional Skills Maths and English at the end of Year 11. We are looking for tutors in the following areas:

  • Belper
  • Alfreton
  • Glossop
  • Derby City
  • Swadlincote
  • Breadsall Hilltop
  • Chellaston
  • Mickleover
  • Littleover
  • Allenton
  • Alvaston

Responsibilities

  • Functional Skills English and Maths tuition to individual students - mainly students who do not have a school place, or who may attend Alternative Provisions on a part time basis
  • Tuition of Functional Skills Entry Level 1 through to Level 2
  • Supporting generally low-ability learners with complex emotional issues & behavioural challenges

Work Experience

  • Tutoring/teaching Functional Skills English in alternative provisions, PRUs, special schools
  • Experience of KS3 & 4 curriculum & qualifications 
  • Teaching full classes, small intervention groups or 1:1 pupils

Education

  • Teaching qualification (eg. PGCE, Award/Cert/Dip E&T, P/C/DTTLS etc)
  • Educated to degree level

Skills

  • Understanding of functional skills teaching, learning and qualifications
  • Experience of working in non-mainstream settings with challenging learners
  • Basic understanding of working with young people managing childhood trauma and attachment disorder
  • Ability to empathise and support the development of emotional literacy
  • Robust understanding of safeguarding procedures
  • Ability to provide comprehensive feedback reports each week

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
