The school caters to a maximum of 26 students across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Years 7–11), with class sizes typically limited to six pupils. The school places a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, behavioural support, and holistic development, offering an environment where both students and staff feel valued and respected.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver engaging and differentiated Food Technology lessons up to GCSE level, tailored to meet the individual needs of learners with SEMH and ASD.

Design and implement creative lesson plans that accommodate a variety of learning styles and capabilities.
-
Conduct practical cooking sessions in a fully equipped, cabin-style teaching kitchen located within the school’s garden, while upholding high standards of hygiene and safety.
-
Support students in completing coursework and preparing for exams, providing timely and constructive feedback.
-
Monitor and assess pupil progress using both formative and summative methods, adapting teaching strategies accordingly.
-
Promote key concepts of nutrition, healthy eating, and sustainable food practices.
-
Combine theoretical instruction with practical application to foster a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
-
Apply effective behaviour management strategies and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment.
-
Contribute to wider school activities, curriculum development, and pastoral care initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate:
-
A fully qualified teacher (QTS is essential) with a strong background in Food Technology and a demonstrable track record of success at Key Stage 4.
-
Experience working with young people with SEMH and/or ASD, with a compassionate and empathetic approach to teaching.
-
Skilled in using de-escalation techniques and providing emotional support within a trauma-informed setting.
-
A team player who thrives in a close-knit, collaborative school environment.
-
Additional qualifications or experience in another area of Design Technology would be highly desirable.
Additional Information:
-
Full-time availability is preferred; however, part-time applications may be considered for exceptional candidates.
-
This is a long-term position with the potential to transition to a permanent role following a successful probationary period.
-
The school building, a converted townhouse, offers a calm, homely atmosphere that supports a therapeutic approach to education.
-
The role is based in a uniquely designed, stand-alone kitchen classroom, providing an inspiring setting for both teaching and learning.
-
Start date: As soon as possible.
