Job Advertisement: Food Technology Teacher
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Food Technology Teacher to join the team at a welcoming and inclusive school in the Fareham area. The school provides a nurturing environment for students, particularly supporting those with SEMH needs, where emotional support and knowledge of de-escalation are key aspects of the role. The secondary school support 26 students from year 7- year 11 and has class sizes of around 6; this is a fantastic experience to build a good rapport with small classes and make a real difference!
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Food Technology up to GCSE level, ensuring the curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of each student.
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that cater to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring students are challenged and supported.
- Plan, prepare, and assess practical cooking sessions, ensuring students gain hands-on experience while maintaining high standards of health and safety in the kitchen.
- Prepare students for both coursework and exams, providing clear and structured feedback to support their progression.
- Assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and using data to inform future lesson planning.
- Foster an understanding of nutrition, healthy eating, and sustainability in food production.
- Integrate theory-based lessons with practical work, helping students make connections between the two and gain a well-rounded understanding of Food Technology.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively, maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment while supporting students with SEMH and ASD needs.
- Contribute to the development of the school’s wider curriculum and participate in school activities, helping to create a well-rounded educational experience for students.
The Ideal Candidate:
- A fully qualified teacher with a passion for Food Technology (QTS essential).
- Experience in teaching GCSE level Food Technology.
- Additional expertise in another area of technology (DT, or similar) would be highly desirable.
- A compassionate and patient individual, who is able to support students with varying needs, including emotional support and nurturing.
- Someone who thrives in a small, close-knit school environment with the ability to manage students with SEMH and ASD needs.
Additional Information:
- Full-time candidates are preferred, although part-time applicants may be considered for exceptional candidates.
- The role is long-term, with the likelihood of permanency permanent contract after probationary period
- The Food Technology department is located in a unique cabin-style kitchen in the school’s garden, providing a wonderful working environment, the school itself is a townhouse style building creating a homely feel for the students
- Start date: As soon as possible.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
