Job description

English Teacher – Secondary School in Stockport – September Start

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a thriving secondary school in Stockport to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic English Teacher for a full-time role beginning in September 2025.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-resourced English department within a school that prioritises student progress and teacher development. The successful candidate will teach English Language and Literature across Key Stage 3 and 4, delivering creative and challenging lessons designed to inspire a love of reading and writing.

The school is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and has strong leadership, high behaviour expectations, and a welcoming staff culture. It has an inclusive ethos and places significant focus on developing literacy across the curriculum. Staff enjoy access to regular CPD, subject-specific training, and opportunities to take on additional responsibilities.

You will:

  • Deliver high-quality English lessons to mixed-ability classes

  • Plan and differentiate schemes of work to support varied learning needs

  • Use assessment to track progress and adjust teaching accordingly

  • Support extracurricular literacy activities, such as reading clubs and debate teams

  • Engage in departmental meetings and contribute to wider school life

You must:

  • Hold QTS or equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification

  • Have experience teaching English at Key Stage 3 and 4 (AQA preferred)

  • Be passionate about improving outcomes for young people

  • Demonstrate excellent behaviour management and a strong classroom presence
