Teacher of English – Further Education
Location: Northampton
Contract Type: 0.8 
Start Date: August / September 2025
In partnership with a Further Education College

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a respected Further Education college to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of English. This role is an exciting opportunity to support learners aged 16 and over, helping them develop essential English skills for academic success, further study, and employment.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching English and committed to delivering inclusive, engaging, and high-quality learning across a range of programmes including Study Programmes, GCSE resits, Functional Skills, Adult Learning, and potentially elements of Higher Education.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and effective English lessons to learners aged 16 and above, across a range of programmes.

  • Teach up to 855 hours per year (pro rata for part-time), in line with the college’s teaching expectations.

  • Plan and deliver lessons that are inclusive, differentiated, and meet the diverse needs of learners.

  • Create and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with curriculum and qualification standards.

  • Use a variety of teaching strategies and digital tools to enhance learning and maximise student engagement.

  • Provide clear, constructive, and timely feedback on student work and progress.

  • Support learners’ progression, personal development, and academic achievement.

  • Promote and monitor excellent student attendance, punctuality, and participation.

  • Prepare students for internal and external assessments, including A-Levels and Functional Skills.

  • Maintain accurate records using the college’s systems, including updates to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).

  • Uphold college values, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

  • Contribute to the development of the English curriculum and collaborate with other departments to support the wider student experience.

  • Where required, take on course coordination or leadership responsibilities.


Ideal Candidate

  • A recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.

  • Experience teaching English to post-16 learners (A-levels, Functional Skills, or equivalent).

  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for English language and literature.

  • Experience supporting learners with varying abilities and educational backgrounds.

  • Confident in using educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

  • Organised, reflective, and committed to continuous professional development.
