English Teacher – Full Time (Maternity Cover)

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a well-regarded secondary school to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic English Teacher for a full-time maternity cover position, running from 1st June 2026 to 1st June 2027 (anticipated).

This role is available on a daily rate basis and would suit an English subject specialist, ideally with a relevant qualification, who is confident taking on full teaching responsibilities and inspiring students through a rich and engaging English curriculum.

The school is recognised through Ofsted for its positive learning culture, calm and orderly environment, and high expectations of pupils, with a strong emphasis on literacy, effective classroom practice, and inclusive education. Staff benefit from supportive leadership, collaborative departments, and a clear focus on pupil progress and wellbeing.

The Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Teaching English across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Planning and delivering engaging and well-structured lessons

  • Marking, assessment, and providing high-quality feedback

  • Tracking progress and supporting students of varying abilities

  • Taking responsibility for a tutor group

  • Contributing to wider school duties and the life of the school

  • Working collaboratively within a supportive English department

This is a long-term maternity cover booking, inclusive of planning, marking, tutor responsibilities, and duties, providing stability and continuity for students.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A qualified English Teacher (QTS preferred)

  • A specialist in English, ideally with a degree or subject-related qualification

  • Confident teaching the secondary English curriculum

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

  • Passionate about literacy, reading, and student achievement

  • ECTs and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply
