Job description

Are you an English Teacher who believes that strong relationships are the foundation of learning?

We are seeking a passionate, resilient and nurturing English Teacher to join our specialist school supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), trauma-related behaviours, attachment difficulties and other behavioural challenges.

This role is ideal for a teacher who understands that progress looks different for every child — and who is committed to helping pupils re-engage with education through creativity, consistency and care.

About the Role

You will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons across KS3/KS4 – all students learn at different levels with some aiming for GCSE
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse SEMH and SEND needs
  • Foster a safe, structured and inclusive classroom environment
  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to behaviour
  • Support pupils in developing literacy, communication and emotional expression
  • Track progress and contribute to EHCP reviews where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, behaviour support staff and senior leaders

Class sizes are small, allowing you to focus on individual progress and relationship-building.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
  • Experience teaching English up to GCSE level
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEND, or in alternative provision (desirable but not essential)
  • A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
  • The ability to differentiate effectively and creatively

Early Career Teachers with the right mindset and resilience are welcome to apply.

Essential Personality Traits

We are looking for a teacher who is:

  • Calm and emotionally intelligent – able to de-escalate and respond thoughtfully
  • Resilient and consistent – able to maintain high expectations with compassion
  • Patient and understanding – recognising behaviour as communication
  • Reflective and adaptable – willing to adjust approaches to meet individual needs
  • Creative and engaging – able to make English accessible and meaningful
  • Relational in approach – prioritising trust and connection

A good sense of humour and the ability to celebrate small steps of progress are invaluable in this setting.

What We Offer:

  • Small class sizes and additional classroom support
  • A supportive leadership team that prioritises staff wellbeing
  • Ongoing CPD in trauma-informed practice and SEMH strategies
  • The opportunity to make a life-changing difference

If you are committed to inclusion, believe every young person deserves a champion, and want to teach in a setting where relationships matter as much as results, we would love to hear from you.
