Down Syndrome Support Assistant Needed in Lancaster (LA1)

  • Monday to Friday.
  • 08:30 – 15:30.
  • Contract: Temporary.
  • Start Date: October 2023.

A local Primary School in the Lancaster (LA1) area has requested Teaching Personnel to support with appointment of a Down Syndrome Support Assistant to begin in October 2023. This role will initially run until December 2023 with the possibility to extend depending upon the right candidate and the bond created with the child.

This role will be to work closely with one child within the Year 4 class that has Down Syndrome. This is a full-time role to allow for continuity for the child therefore the school cannot accept part time applicants. This role will require strong communication to allow for a thorough handover with the child’s parents/guardians and the ability to create a comfortable and strong working relationship with the parents, building their trust over time.

Requirements:

-          Caring.

-          Approachable.

-          Strong communication skills.

-          Understanding.

-          Positive.

-          Previous experience supporting a child with additional needs.

-          An understanding of Down Syndrome.

The role:

-          Will require some aspects of personal care.

-          Will require handovers with parents.

-          Will require handovers with the class teacher.

-          Observing and tracking development.

-          Setting an example with positive behaviour.

-          Promoting positive behaviour in the classroom.

-          Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team.

-          Working closely with the Speech and Language Therapist.

-          Working 1-1 to support development.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
