Cover Supervisor – Secondary School

Location: Preston
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-Time / Term Time Only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Preston is seeking a confident and reliable Cover Supervisor to join the team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, experienced support staff, or individuals with experience working with young people.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring students remain on task and engaged with the work provided. You will play an important role in maintaining a positive learning environment across the school.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-set lesson materials across a range of subjects
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies
  • Support students to complete work and stay engaged in learning
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff following lessons
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has experience working with young people, ideally in a school setting
  • Is confident managing groups of students aged 11–16
  • Has strong communication and organisational skills
  • Remains calm, professional, and adaptable
  • Holds GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
  • A degree or previous classroom experience is desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
