SEN Teaching Assistant | Middleton | Teaching Personnel

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Middleton from September.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASC, PMLD, CLDD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and sensory processing needs. You will provide both 1:1 and small group support, helping students access learning, develop independence, manage emotions, and achieve their individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive strategies.
• Support emotional regulation and wellbeing.
• Assist with personal care when required, including toileting, hygiene, feeding, and mobility support.
• Encourage communication, confidence, social skills, and independence.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff.
• Maintain accurate records and uphold safeguarding procedures.

Essential Requirements

• Child and Adult DBS.
• Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour.
• Personal care experience or willingness to complete training.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with ASC, PMLD, CLDD, or SEMH.
• Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other communication systems.
• Previous experience in specialist schools, care, or support settings.
