SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEN School

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs? Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist secondary SEN school in the Wigan area. The school supports students aged 11-16 with a range of moderate special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), ADHD, speech and language needs, social communication difficulties, and associated learning barriers. The Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored academic, social, and emotional support to students both inside and outside of the classroom.
Key Duties:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional learning needs.
- Assisting students with literacy, numeracy, and classroom activities.
- Supporting the delivery of personalised learning plans and EHCP targets.
- Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement, and independence.
- Helping students develop social, communication, and life skills.
- Supporting pupils during practical lessons, interventions, and enrichment activities.
- Building positive relationships with students to promote confidence and self-esteem.
- Recording progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
- Assisting with classroom preparation and adapting resources where required.
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH, care, youth work, coaching, or support work backgrounds.
- Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs.
- Ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
- Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
