Class Teacher - Leeds
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
Do you want to improve the education of some of the most vulnerable young people in Leeds? Do you want more freedom with your planning and to move away from the restrictions of the mainstream curriculum? Do you want to develop and shape students through creative and flexible teaching?
Teaching Personnel are currently working with a brand new, state of the art SEMH provision in Middleton, Leeds (LS10) that is looking to appoint a class teacher for their Key Stage 4 students. The school is easily accessible by public transport from Leeds, Wakefield and surrounding areas and the role will be full time with an early finish on Fridays. If successful in the post you will be offered the opportunity to go into a permanent position with the school.
The school operates a nurturing approach and follows a primary based model where the students spend the majority of their day with one class teacher who delivers a range of subjects. Th classes vary in size but are all quite small, usually around six students and at least one support assistant. The needs of these students vary but they all have EHCP statements of Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues. This means that there can be some challenging behaviour, self-esteem issues, social difficulties and disengagement within the classes.
The school is looking for someone who is therapeutic in their approach who can offer person centred support to the students. You must be resilient and understand the difficulties that can come with working with students with SEN issues as well as creativity and imaginative techniques in your teaching in order to engage the students. The school is part of a growing Academy and so the role may provide an opportunity of further leadership in the future.
