Child Companion – Primary SEND School

Location: Haywards Heath
Pay: £360 - £460 per week
Contract: Long-Term (Monday-Friday) | Temp to Perm
Start Date: September

Teaching Personnel is working in close partnership with a welcoming and supportive Primary SEND School in Haywards Heath, and we are seeking dedicated Child Companions to join their team from September.

This specialist setting supports primary-aged boys with Autism (ASC) and ADHD, providing a nurturing, structured environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. The school is looking for compassionate, resilient, and enthusiastic individuals who can build positive relationships and make a genuine difference to the lives of their pupils.

The Role

As a Child Companion, you will work closely with pupils on both a 1:1 basis and within small group settings, helping them to engage with learning, develop social skills, and regulate their emotions throughout the school day. You'll become a trusted adult and positive role model, supporting each child to achieve their individual goals.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism and/or ADHD.

  • Is patient, empathetic, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.

  • Can be a strong, consistent, and positive role model.

  • Is confident supporting pupils both individually and in small groups.

  • Holds (or is willing to obtain) a Child Only Enhanced DBS.

  • Must be able to drive due to the school's location.
