This College is a 52-week residential specialist college providing quality care and education for young people between the ages of 16 and 25 with a diagnosis of autism, or whose difficulties place them on the autistic continuum. Students often have complex needs, associated learning difficulties and behaviours of concern. The curriculum has been devised to prepare students for adulthood and to equip them with the skills and knowledge to achieve their personal best in adult life.

This is delivered in a variety of settings, including within students’ homes, vocational placements both internally and externally. As well as learning within in the classrooms, young people take part in various outdoor activities such as animal therapy and various activities based around nature throughout the college sites.

We are looking for teachers who share a vision, who are passionate about the teaching profession and committed to fostering a passion for lifelong learning. Working as part of a committed team, we need someone who can cater for the diverse needs of our students, therefore you need to be:

  • Well organised and able to plan a structured learning environment
  • Practical, creative and inventive;
  • Enthusiastic and energetic;
  • Able to interact with people in a variety of ways;
  • Looking to develop expertise in special educational needs and Autism.
  • Dynamic and proactive

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead for careers and employability skills curriculum across the college.
  • Responsibility of reviewing careers information, working with our external careers advisory service and the Assistant Principal to develop an ambitious and forward thinking employability curriculum for 16-25 year olds with SEN, complex communication needs, and moderate to severe learning disabilities.
  • Working with the SLT and enrichment and employment co-ordinator to pro-actively plan and engage students in work experience, both internal and external aligned with their skills and ambitions.
  • Knowledge and ability to use skill builder to assess and identify personalised curriculums for employability skills and evidence progress towards EHCP outcomes.
  • Qualified teacher, confident in pedagogy and passionate about ambitious teaching, and people with a learning disability being prepared for the world of work, removing barriers and using local workforce information to devise curriculum and opportunities that meet need and provide opportunity after college.
  • Keen to undertake careers lead and job coach training or already possess.

There is an enrichment and employment co-ordinator who also supports with this role.

This is a full time role, 40 hours a week, term time only. 

You must have QTS to be considered for this position.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
