A sensory support unit require a BSL trained Teaching Assistant to support within a Primary sensory support unit in Longsight, Manchester. This unit supports 8 pupils with communication needs and varies between teaching pupils within the unit and alongside their mainstream peers.

The sensory support unit caters for pupils with speech, language and communication needs as well as hearing impairments and BSL is a predominant method of communication. The Teaching Assistant would be required to support pupils with hearing impairments within their lessons, previous Teaching Assistant experience is desirable but not essential.

This sensory support unit require a number of Teaching Assistants to support within their hearing impairment units around Primary and Secondary schools across greater Manchester. Majority of sites require BSL trained staff, however a Teaching Assistant with an awareness of hearing impairments can be utilised at some of the sites.

This role is a long term supply role and will be likely to last until the end of the academic year with strong potential of continuing into September.

Teaching Assistant Specification;

• BSL Level 2 or higher

• Good communication skills

• Experience working as an interpreter is desirable but not essential

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant is desirable but not essential

• DBS on the update service
