A highly successful specialist school require a BSL trained Teaching Assistant to support within a secondary specialist school in Liverpool. The school cater for young people with communication needs and varies between teaching pupils within the unit and alongside their mainstream peers.
The sensory support unit caters for pupils with speech, language and communication needs as well as hearing impairments with BSL being used as a predominant method of communication. The Teaching Assistant would be required to support pupils with hearing impairments within their lessons and on a 1:1 basis, previous experience as a Teaching Assistant is desirable but not essential. The role would require you to support within lessons to make them accessible for the pupils who may involve differentiation or simplification of the work set by the teacher. A lot of the role will also be working as an interpreter, any previous experience as a communication support worker would also be ideal.
This role is a long term supply role starting ASAP and will be likely to last until the end of the academic year with strong potential of continuing into September.
Teaching Assistant Specification;
- BSL Level 2 or higher
- Good communication skills
- Experience working as an interpreter is desirable but not essential
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant is desirable but not essential
- DBS on the update service is desirable
