We are recruiting for a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH provision in Chorley from September. This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday, with the opportunity to progress from a temporary position to a permanent contract for the right candidate.
This specialist setting supports pupils aged 6-16 years with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, associated anxiety and additional SEND requirements. The school provides a highly nurturing, therapeutic environment where positive relationships, individualised learning and emotional wellbeing are at the heart of everything they do. Pupils benefit from tailored support designed to help them rebuild confidence, develop resilience and re-engage with education.
The Role
As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students who may display challenging behaviour.
- Support learners both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and promote emotional regulation.
- Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals.
- Encourage engagement, confidence and independence.
- Help create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
- Has a calm, resilient and patient approach.
- Can build strong professional relationships and act as a positive role model.
- Is confident managing challenging behaviour in a consistent and supportive manner.
- Has experience in education, youth work, care, support work, sports coaching or similar sectors (desirable).
- Holds a valid DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
