Behaviour Support Assistant needed in HG1

Job description

Teaching Personnel are working with a school in Harrogate that require a TA experienced in behaviour support on a temporary basis to start ASAP.

The school in  HG1 would prefer someone with specific experience in behaviour management, whether that is experience of working in a PRU or a behaviour support role in schools. Ideally the candidate would be qualified in Team Teach too, although this is not absolutely essential. The school require a strong and imposing presence that the children will respect and look up to. Many of the more challenging pupils are boys, and so any experience in sport that could engage them would be very valuable to the school.

The role involves a lot of 1:1 and small group work with particularly challenging pupils in years 5 and 6 both in and out of class, so the candidate must be capable of handling this responsibility. Behaviour support will be needed in these classes in particular as some students are misbehaving and therefore preventing the rest of the class from working. Ideally the children will paticipate in full class activity, but someone is needed to intervene when this is not possible.

Preferences for this role:

  • Experienced TA
  • Previously held behaviour support role or worked in a PRU
  • Team Teach trained
  • Strong and imposing presence
  • Sports background
  • Experience of behaviour interventions, small group and 1:1 work
  • Responsible handling challenging pupils on their own
  • Capable of working with Upper KS2 children

The school has consistently received Good in their Ofsted inspections and so is a pleasant environment to work within, although this role will be concentrated in working with the most challenging children.

The role is initially until February half-term, but could likely be extended to a longer term role depending on performance.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
