We are currently working with an alternative provision in ­­­­­­Portsmouth, who are looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to work with children in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

The school

The school provides education for Portsmouth pupils who are unable to attend mainstream school for either Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Needs or medical reasons. There are 95 places for learners with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs), 105 Alternative Provision (AP) places and 38 places funded from the ‘medical block’. The school makes provision for learners who require a short period of Alternative Provision away from mainstream school and for learners with long term and complex SEMH Needs.

The role

You will work in the small classes and also on a 1-1 basis. You will be supporting the students in their lessons and ensuring they are reaching their full potential. You will also be expected to support the students emotional wellbeing as well as academically. 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working in a school/alternative provision/SEN setting
  • Be confident working with pupils who have SEMH and challenging behaviour 
  • Have an interest in education and be passionate about making a positive impact on the students' lives
  • Not be afraid to get stuck in!
