Behaviour Support Assistant (Supply) – Secondary School

Agency: Teaching Personnel
Location: Cramlington (NE23)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long term - potential to go permanent 
Hours: Full-time and part-time available
Pay: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a secondary school in Northumberland to recruit Behaviour Support Assistant to start immediately. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting young people with behavioural, emotional, and social needs.

You will work with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted behaviour support to help students engage positively with learning and school life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support
  • Support students with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or additional learning barriers
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and individual support plans
  • Assist with de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
  • Support pupils in classrooms, intervention spaces, or alternative provision settings
  • Work collaboratively with teaching, pastoral, and SEN teams
  • Monitor and report on student behaviour and engagement
  • Promote a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people (education, youth work, care, or similar)
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Resilient, calm, and adaptable approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people

Desirable:

  • Experience in a secondary school or SEMH setting
  • Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed practice
  • Team Teach or positive handling training
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Youth Work, Psychology, Education)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
