Are you passionate about supporting young people who may need a little extra encouragement, patience and understanding to thrive in education?

Teaching Personnel are looking for a Behaviour Buddy to join an alternative provision in Lancing, supporting pupils who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is confident, resilient and able to build positive relationships with young people who can present with challenging behaviour.

The Role

As a Behaviour Buddy, you will work closely with pupils to provide consistent support throughout the school day. You will help students manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions and engage positively with their education.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Building trusting and positive relationships with pupils
• Supporting students with challenging or dysregulated behaviour
• Helping pupils to recognise and manage their emotions
• Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in learning
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
• Acting as a positive role model and maintaining clear boundaries
• Working closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team
• Supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence and social skills
• Helping to create a calm, safe and supportive learning environment

We’re Looking For

You don't necessarily need previous experience in a school, but experience working with children or young people with behavioural, social or emotional needs would be highly beneficial.

You could have a background in:

• Education or youth work
• Sports coaching
• Support work
• Residential care
• SEN/SEMH settings
• Mentoring or pastoral support
• Community work
• Working with vulnerable young people

Most importantly, you will be patient, consistent, approachable and confident when managing challenging situations.
