SEMH Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Littlehampton
Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday

We are currently looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision setting in Littlehampton, supporting young people who may have struggled to thrive within a mainstream school environment.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is able to build positive relationships, maintain consistent boundaries and provide young people with the encouragement they need to re-engage with education.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teaching and pastoral staff to provide tailored support to pupils throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Encouraging pupils to engage with learning
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Helping to maintain a calm, safe and supportive environment
- Using positive behaviour strategies and maintaining consistent boundaries
- Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
- Working closely with teachers and the wider support team
- Acting as a positive role model for pupils

- Able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
Previous experience working with SEMH, SEN, challenging behaviour, Alternative Provision, youth work, residential care, mentoring, sports coaching or similar environments would be highly beneficial.
However, transferable experience and the right attitude are equally valued.
