Autism Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel are working with a mainstream primary school in the West Moors area of Dorset, who are hoping to recruit a full time 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant; to work with a pupil with Autism. The role is set to start from September 2020 on an ongoing basis, the child you will be supporting will be in Year 5. The pupil is working below age related expectation and requires additional support with their subject learning as well as behaviour management throughout the school day. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children with Autism and challenging behaviour, and experience holding interventions and de-escalating difficult situations.

The role:

Start date - September 2020
Primary School – Year 5
Full time (Monday – Friday) long term
Hours approximately, 8:30am – 3:30pm
West Moors
Salary GBP9.50 - GBP11.50 per hour

Key responsibilities and requirements for this teaching assistant role will include:

Supporting a pupil with Autism on a 1:1 basis, in order to support their learning.
Taking direction from class teachers, SLT and senior support staff and completing tasks to a high level.
Have patience and a caring and understanding nature.
Experience de-escalating situations of behavioural issues.
Be able to use own initiative and act accordingly without having to be directed.
Be able to work full time from September 2020 until at least July 2021.
