Autism Learning Support Assistant – Newport & Cwmbran (ALN / ASD / SEN)
Teaching Personnel are recruiting passionate Autism Learning Support Assistants to join specialist LRB (Learning Resource Base) classes in our partner schools across Newport and Cwmbran.
You’ll be supporting a small class of up to 10 pupils with severe autism (ASD) — some with associated behavioural needs — helping them access learning in a safe, structured and positive environment.
This role is ideal for someone calm, patient and resilient — who genuinely wants to support autistic learners to progress socially, emotionally and academically.

Job Title: ALN Teaching Assistant
Location: Newport & Cwmbran
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 – 15:00
Pay: Minimum £13.75ph
Start: ASAP
What we’re looking for
You will need:
-
EWC registration (Education Workforce Council) - we will assist you
-
Child-only enhanced DBS (we can assist with this)
-
2 professional references covering 24 months
-
a calm, positive approach with challenging behaviour
-
strong communication and patient interpersonal skills
Experience working with SEN / ASD is desirable — but not essential.
We welcome applications from people with lived SEN experience, or those enthusiastic to learn.
Daily responsibilities

Support autistic learners in a small ALN class

Encourage progress and independence through routine and structure

Build trusting relationships with pupils, staff and parents

Provide emotional / social support and positive behaviour reinforcement

Maintain a safe, nurturing learning environment

Follow safeguarding, wellbeing and behaviour policies

Work collaboratively with teachers and LSAs

Our partner schools in Newport & Cwmbran are well-equipped ALN provisions, accessible via public transport, with specialist classrooms designed for Additional Learning Needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
