ASD Support Assistant

A fantastic opportunity has arisen in a Darwen-based Primary School for a specialist support assistant with experience of working with individuals with Autism.

You will be appointed on a full-time, temporary basis. The position is to support a child in the Reception class on a one-to-one basis, starting from Monday 9th March 2020 until the end of the academic year.

The school are looking for a support assistant with recent, successful experience of supporting individuals with Autism; recent experience of using the PECS resource is also essential. The child also speaks English as an additional language. Accordingly, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to tailor learning to meet the needs of children with minimal English.   

The school is a larger than average-sized Primary school located in Darwen. The large majority of pupils who attend the school speak English as an additional language. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils is inline with the national average, as is the proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and or/ disabilities. Pupils with SEN are well supported and make good progress. Leaders have invested heavily in the Early Years to improve resources and speech and language support. As a result, children in EYFS get off to a good start.
