SEN Support Assistant Required for Specialist School in Sheffield

We are currently looking for experienced teaching assistants to work at our SEN school in Sheffield to start within the autumn term with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff. The ideal candidate will need to be someone who can be extremely committed to the role as continuity to these children is essential.

The schools takes great pride in their academic achievements of all pupils and are very dedicated to making sure students feel emotionally secure and confident. The school are a through school and cater for primary ages through to secondary with a range of SEN (including Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties and Speech and Language Delay). You will be required to support these pupils and reengaged them as fully a possible back in to education and a curriculum tailored to them. Your role will include nurture and offer additional support with communication, including those pupils with a mechanical system of communication and PECS. You may also be required to use British Sign Language and/or Makaton, (a form of sign language for SEN pupils) so training in either of these would be beneficial. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in to a great working atmosphere.

In addition to this you will have strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate with families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff, social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of meeting the social, emotional and mental health needs of young people with Special Educational Needs.

Experience or training in the following is also desirable: Picture Exchange Communication (PECS), Makaton or BSL (to any level, Autism Awareness/ASC Training, Team Teach and Moving and Handling
